My beginnings in toy poodles go back to the 60's, believe it or not! When I was working at Britannica Center, I brought home a lab rat which I named Socrates. My husband said "Take it back; you can get your poodle".
And so it began. He shortly thereafter began his active duty with the Navy, was on an aircraft carrier for 8 months, and when he came home I had my first two bitches, learned more about the quality and characteristics of the poodle, and began breeding.
In 1969, I began showing, and have bred a number of champions since, always with the goal of improving the breed with each generation. Poodles, as all breeds, have genetic problems inherent to their breed; therefore I do the genetic testing, and do not breed dogs that are affected.
I have the Optigen test done on all (for PRA, progressive retinal atrophy) which causes dogs to go blind. I check for patella subluxation, and hip problems. I breed not only for beauty for the show ring, but for health.
